Green Networks of the Dales
Twenty magnificent new linear walks by the originator of the Dales Way
By Colin Speakman
Foreword by Mike Harding
Twenty new walks from Colin Speakman, the man who gave us the Dales Way.
This is a very different kind of book about walking in the Yorkshire Dales. Rather than following the crowd by describing a series of circular strolls from popular car parks, it sets out to appeal to the serious walker who wishes to leave the car behind. The twenty walks featured in these pages are all linear routes of between twelve and twenty-five miles in extent that interconnect to form a walker's grid across the Dales. The result is a green network that offers infinite choice in a walker's landscape without equal. The walks also tie in with that other green network - the increasingly good-quality public transport services.
The author's own photographs depict the Yorkshire Dales in all its glorious variety and visually complement the practical information provided by extracts from Harvey Maps.
"One of the things I always meant to do was put together a book of linear walks so that, instead of having to walk in a circle back to where I'd left the car, I could get trains or buses back to where I started. Now Colin Speakman has saved me the trouble, and a fine book it is too." - Mike Harding
