Gin Clan author joins summer gin party

One Square, the popular cocktail bar at Edinburgh’s Sheraton Hotel is uniting gin lovers across the city as it hosts a Summer Gin Garden Party on its terrace on Friday, 12 July, from 6pm to 8pm.

Fans of a G&T or gin cocktail are invited on a journey of discovery with the author of The GIN CLAN Fiona Laing and some of Scotland’s top gins – Garden Shed Gin, Old Curiosity Gin, One Square Gin – and Cushiedoos Tonic.

The event, which is being hosted in partnership with Bite Magazine, will see food and drink enthusiast, author and gin connoisseur, Fiona share her love of the drink and discuss ‘What Makes Gin Scottish’.

For the price of just £25, guests will not only have a chance to meet the makers, but will be given the opportunity to sample their drinks, enjoying signature serves from both One Square Gin and Old Curiosity Gin and a specially crafted Garden Shed Gin cocktail. Popcorn and ice cream in gin-inspired flavours will also be served – the perfect complement to your tipple.

One Square launched its One Square Gin in collaboration with Pickerings at Summerhall Distillery in 2015. Created by the bar’s experts and the founders of Pickerings Gin, the drink features 15 carefully-considered botanicals including juniper, pink grapefruit and Scottish heather which mix with Mediterranean liquorice, resulting in a citrusy, easy-drinking gin experience.

A leap year in pictures

It all began innocently enough. On January 1, 2016, Yorkshire Post photographer Tony Johnson was experimenting with a new camera. The result was a black and white portrait of his son, carrying the skateboard he had got for Christmas. Another time, it might have become just another family photograph to go with the hundreds of others Tony had taken. Instead, it was the start of a year-long project which is about to be published in a coffee table photographic book called 366 (2016 being a leap year).
